Union
Station reopens with ceremony
Logistics Plus will celebrate its recent purchase of the Union
Station building at West 14th and Sassafras streets with a ceremony
Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
The Erie-based global freight management company in October bought the
downtown landmark for $1.5 million. Logistics Plus is refurbishing the
building's third floor for its corporate headquarters and has plans to
create a railroad museum, retail shops and art exhibit space on its first
and second floors.
In addition, Logistics Plus recently opened a newsstand and coffee and bagel
shop, Union Station News, on the building's first floor.
Wednesday's ceremony will be held 76 years to the day after the Union
Station building was officially opened.
Matthew Griswold, then the chief executive for what is now GE
Transportation Systems, gave the keynote speech when the historic train
station opened in 1927.
GE Transportation Systems was Logistics Plus' first customer and is a key
reason why the company chose to bring its corporate headquarters to Erie.
